San Diego shines brightly all year, but locals enjoy the glitz and glamour during the winter holidays. Visiting a top-notch San Diego Christmas light display is a great way to get into the holiday spirit.
Christmas and the Winter Holidays have arrived! We are so grateful to have grown Senior Helpers La Mesa and Poway to what it is today. Our Caregivers and office staff are what make us so special.
Senior Helpers East San Diego was humbled and honored this past month by receiving the 2022 Rookie of the Year Award from Senior Helpers Corporate at our annual conference in Denver. Going to the national conference for the first time filled us with affirmation and confidence that we are in the right industry! There were so many motivated entrepreneurs devoted to helping Seniors in their community. Maureen, Cassia, Star and I left conference renewed and empowered to bring the spirit of service back to San Diego.
The summer of 2022 is winding down with the beginning of the school year for our kids, Benson and Seneca. Benson is continuing his Spanish Language Immersion Program as a 2nd grader and his ability to speak Español is impressive (in the rare moments he decides to speak it in front of us). Seneca is now officially a Pre-K girl and she is excited to see her friends again.
Our Senior Helpers Poway Office is almost ready for business! It has been an amazing journey to get to this point. Our overhead sign is up and lit, and our tenant improvements (flooring and paint) are receiving their finishing touches, and we just hired a North County Recruiter!
This month, I would like to showcase the correspondence of one of our most gifted Caregivers. Ahmed is a rare breed of human: compassionate, driven, healing. He treats his clients with such dignity and honor that his name at the office has become synonymous with respect. His clients adore him and so does our staff. Keep up the incredible work, Ahmed!
Cassia, Mo and I recently registered for the Senior Helpers Annual Conference in September, and I couldn’t be more excited by our keynote speaker – Rick Rigsby PhD. Besides being an incredible motivational speaker and author, Rigsby’s life testimony is heartwarming and triumphant. My favorite quote from a very inspirational and very viral college graduation speech he gave is this:
When Cassia, Maureen, and I started Senior Helpers East San Diego, we were committed above all else to growth. We knew that with our experience in healthcare and marketing, that we could make a difference in our Senior community. So much so that our unofficial motto was Always Commit to Yes. Looking back over the past year, I believe that this helped grow our business and reputation throughout the community. Clients know that we offer a superior service and even if our home care agency isn’t what they need, they understand that we will act as their fiduciary to point them in the right direction.
February is a busy time of year here at Senior Helpers! Traditionally, February and March see an increase in Seniors and their families asking for help. The running hypothesis as to why this is the case is because families over the Holiday Season realize that their loved one need a little more help around the house. So, our office is busy at work fielding inquiries, visiting Seniors and their families, and setting up care with our quality team of Caregivers.
There is no escaping COVID in the New Year. Our office has dealt with a spike in sick calls from our Caregivers and clients. On average, 20% of our Caregivers has been out from COVID since late December. Several of our clients have also paused care due to getting sick themselves.
This will be my 44th Christmas and likely to be most memorable. My wife’s family is travelling in from Reno and Texas. For the first time since I began private practice, I will be taking time off from work without any sense of guilt towards my partners, who would take the extra burden of Holiday call.
Benson is six years old and what my in-laws would call a “typical boy.” I would call him a particularly typical boy: He is physical (good and bad), strong willed (good and bad), loves ninjas and dinosaurs (all good there), and is always analyzing and testing his environment (good and bad). He is a velociraptor in Jurassic Park – always testing the fences. Not to say these are gender specific behaviors (I won’t go there), but when you contrast him with my daughter (pink unicorns and princess tea parties), his boyishness is undeniable.
It was about three years ago when I decided my life needed to change. As an East County anesthesiologist taking cardiac and obstetrics call several times a week for the better part of 13 years, I came across a priority shift -- I needed to be a present father. My son was entering preschool and my daughter was just a newborn. I wanted to be present as they grew up and realized that the long hours spent at the hospital was time spent away from them and my wife. So, against the advice of friends, colleagues, and most internet searches, I treaded my path towards owning a business with my wife, Cassia and friend, Maureen.
The Senior Helpers East San Diego family was honored to be out at Liberty Station | San Diego, California recently walking to help raise money for Parkinson’s research. It was a beautiful Saturday in Point Loma; we had a booth and were able to chat with and connect to lots of other folks out supporting this wonderful cause from all around the county.
Our very own Cassia Yi, APRN, MSN, CCRN, CNS, as well as Randy Bartosh, head of research for PBHS, joined the Healthcare Corner podcast to discuss Smarter Homecare and our innovative LIFE Profile assessment helping to keep seniors safe and healthy at HOME!
