Hello, my name is Tiffany Phelan and with 20 years of experience providing and managing care for seniors, I have learned a thing or two.  On this page you will find interviews I have done as well as short "Pro Tip" videos to help you navigate your loved one's aging care journey.  Whether your loved one has a chronic illness or has just slowed down as they age, you will find something here for you.  You will be able to find information on caring for those with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia, Parkinson's disease, ALS, COPD, CHF, and more.  Need tips on having those difficult conversations?  Senior Helpers has got you covered.  Don't see what you are looking for?  Feel free to submit requests for new topics through our Contact Us page.

The Biggest Question

Join Tiffany as she talks with Carol Blonder and Jennifer Stupski about "the biggest question."  So many people are worried about what will happen to their assets when they die but the biggest question is, "what will happen to you, to your family, and to your assets if you have a major medical event...and live?"  Living with a chronic illness or having a loved one who is takes a village of people to work together for a great outcome.  Family can be successful at navigating the chronic illness journey if they have help from community resources such as home care, legal services, home health care, hospice, and medical professionals who work together.  Listen as we discuss different parts of the care continuum and how everyone can work together to keep our community's seniors living safe at home, where they want to be.

Seniors, Scams, and Safety

Our conversation continues and Tiffany talks about the LIFE Profile and how to help empower seniors and their families to make the best decisions for their unique situation.  Later, hear from Jennifer Stupski with Legal Stuff as she shares more information about the newest senior scams and how you can keep yourself and your loved ones safe from scammers.

Keeping Your Parents Safe

Join Tiffany Phelan with Senior Helpers and Jennifer Stupski from Legal Stuff as the discuss things we can all do to keep our elderly parents safe.  Tiffany and Jennifer have both been helping seniors for the better part of two decades and they join Carol Blonder for an hourlong special on staying safe at home as well as what resources are available for seniors who need in home care and support.

How to Have Difficult Conversations with your Parents

Sometimes as our parents age we find ourselves having to have increasingly more difficult conversations with them about very sensitive issues.  It may be about driving, about needing help around the house, or even having to move into a more supportive setting.  You may even come up with some excuses for yourself so you can put off those conversations.  Sound familiar?  Listen to this segment as Tiffany with Senior Helpers talks to Carol about why it is important not to put those conversations off and how to approach sensitive topics with even the most resistant of parents.  Tiffany has lived this herself with both of her parents and has also conducted thousands of family meetings throughout her career.  While there is no "magic bullet" to having a conversation like this, it will help all listeners to know how to set up these conversations, how to keep their parents feeling loved and cared for, all while making sure they stay safe.

Hear From a Family Member's First Hand Senior Helpers Experience

Have you recently seen or heard from your parents and are noticing that they may need some help?  Don't know what the right decisions are or even where to start?  Listen as Tiffany talks to Carol Blonder about Carol's experience working with Senior Helpers.  This family needed help and guidance and came to Senior Helpers not knowing how to help their mom age safely.  Senior Helpers staff uses our combined decades of experience to help guide all of our families to find the right care for their budget and to use any programs available to help fund care.  Hear us discuss our work with the VA on behalf of Veterans, our work in the community, and our overall approach to care.

Seeing your loved ones for the first time in a while?

Are you in town for the holidays and seeing your aging loved ones for the first time in a while?  You're not alone because the news is reporting that this holiday season is projected to have the most travelers in decades.  With all of these visits to see family, it is very normal for adult children or loved ones to see major changes with their parents.  Have you noticed some changes?  Maybe the home not being kept up quite like it once was or lost weight, forgetfulness, or not as much energy as it sounded like they had on the phone?  This might be the start of your journey to help your own aging parents or loved ones and Senior Helpers is a great first call to make.  We specialize in providing caregivers to assist seniors with things like laundry, linen changes, and light housekeeping as well as personal care needs like bathing, dressing, or personal hygiene.  Our caregivers also can assist with trips to the grocery store, meal preparation, or even trips to the beauty salon or out shopping.  The care we provide is one-on-one, in the comfort of their own home, and can be completely customized to what your loved one needs.  Senior Helpers has also been providing care in this area for over 16 years and has built a wonderful community of senior-focused organizations who can help with a variety of other needs you or your loved ones may have.  Give us a call today to see how we can assist your family.

Tiffany Discusses Senior Helpers Success Stories — How We Can Help Your Family

The price of the ticket for admission to a long and healthy life is the process of aging.  As our senior loved ones age, they often find themselves needing more support.  Some of our elderly family members accept the need for more assistance and some are more resistant to the idea.  So what do you do when your parent or elderly loved one pushes back and puts themselves in a risky situation?  How do you respect someone's autonomy over their own life while helping keep someone you care about safe?  Listen to Tiffany discuss this exact topic with Carol Blonder here.
