Before opening Senior Helpers of Salt Lake, Brett spent over 26 years dedicated to improving the health of communities in California, Oregon, and Utah as a healthcare leader in multiple healthcare systems, including Intermountain Health and its medical group, supporting the development and operation of numerous services, clinics and physician practices throughout Utah and the Salt Lake area. He always wanted his work to make a difference, embracing the ideal to improve quality of life and to help individuals and families live the best, healthiest, and most fulfilling lives possible.
Based on that mindset, Brett found renewed inspiration to apply his healthcare expertise in a fresh and deeply fulfilling direction when he discovered Senior Helpers. After spending a couple of years in Oregon, he and his wife Kendra returned to Utah to reconnect with their family and invest in the Salt Lake area and communities he has been involved with from his foundation, having grown up in Murray, graduating from the University of Utah, and raising his family in South Jordan.
Brett and Kendra met in Minneapolis when he was completing his Master’s degrees in Business and Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota. He and Kendra have four wonderful adult children, two sons (Blake & Braydon, two daughters (Krista & Kalli), plus their dog (Coby), and cat (Cooper). They enjoy hiking, skiing, e-bikes, photography, pickleball, fishing, camping, being sports fans, singing, church service, and being together with family and friends. They love this great state of Utah, feel so connected here, and want to build something special where they have strong roots.
Brett deeply respects seniors – for all their contributions to their families, community, and the nation. They deserve the support needed to maintain and preserve their health, continue leading enriching lives, have great experiences, and uphold strong relationships with loved ones while residing in the place they call “home” - familiar surroundings where they feel most at ease whenever possible.
Brett wants to educate spouses, supportive family members, or other loved ones in the community about the benefits of in-home personal care. He witnessed the stresses his parents went through and what he and Kendra experienced in supportive roles as his mother faced various health challenges in her last years, with his father acting as the primary caregiver. He is now nearing the time when he will need support. Finding the right course of action and determining the most effective way to offer support can be challenging, and the burdens are real. Balancing conflicting obligations, even with the devoted assistance of family members, complicates these circumstances. In retrospect, Brett feels an in-home care option like Senior Helpers, could have provided great relief and benefit to the family and his parents if they had known more. That is also true for so many other situations and families. As a young adult, Brett also observed the contrast between a grandfather who went to assisted living and a grandmother who received help from a loving care aide at home, allowing her to stay there. There is no question in his mind what the better option is.
These are deeply personal situations and choices built on trust.
