New Year New You
The new year has arrived and resolutions have been set and underway. Whether it’s personal fitness, learning a foreign language, or starting a new hobby these goals can carry heavy expectations and pressure. Settling into a new routine and establishing healthy habits can be a balancing act. Let’s look at a few tips for taking on the new year ahead.
It’s not too late
It’s never too late to get started on a new endeavor. Start by making a list or brainstorming what it is you’re interested in and what materials or resources will be involved. Then break it down into steps to get started. For example, you may start by talking to a friend or family member about learning a new instrument or shopping for art supplies.
Cut yourself some slack
When you are excited or stressed it’s easy to spiral and overwhelm yourself. Remember to take a breath, take a break, and then start again with a calm and level mind. Success doesn’t happen overnight and it can take time to see results. Studies show it can take a few weeks to many months to form a new habit (“Change Your Ways: How Long Does It Take to Form a Habit?,” 2023).
Celebrate victories
Don’t forget to take time to recognize and celebrate your success. Even small accomplishments should be recognized for the time and work you put in to make them happen. Get your loved ones involved when possible, to make it special and fun. Remember to cheer them on in their victories as well!
As we put the year behind us let’s remember the bright moments and look forward to building more success and memories. When we work together and take care of each other it helps us live to our best as a community. Senior Helpers Texas Hill Country wishes you all of the best throughout the new year achieving your goals!
