1. Learning Resource Center: The Learning Resource Center (LRC) is a nature center located in Fort Island Park in Fairlawn. Inside the LRC there are environmental education displays and a small collection of program animals.  Scheduled programs take place inside the building and/or outdoors in the park.  When the center is open it is free to the public.  This senior-friendly learning center has displays, activity room, monthly crafts, and learning about live educational animals.  The Fairlawn Learning Resource Center also engages in limited wildlife rehabilitation and we have several active conservation programs within the park.

2. Fairlawn Kiwanis Community Center: Fairlawn’s Community Center was built in 1976 with the gracious support of the Fairlawn Kiwanis Club. This senior-friendly multi-purpose facility accommodates wedding receptions, dinners, parties, birthday gatherings, anniversaries, wedding and baby showers, meetings, seminars, classes and other activities.

3. Bicentennial Park: Fairlawn's Bicentennial Park is adjacent to the Fairlawn-Kiwanis Community Center on South Smith Road. The park was created in 1976 with a veterans memorial. In 1985 a gazebo was constructed, thanks to the Fairlawn City Women's Club. The senior-friendly park hosts special events such as the summer concert series.

4. Fort Island Park: Fort Island Park in Fairlawn boasts many interesting natural and geologic features. A walk in the early morning will reveal the many bird species that visit the park. Birds like the Belted Kingfisher, Mallard ducks, Green Herons, and Great Blue Herons can be found along the creek. Migratory warblers come through with the common sights of chickadees, woodpeckers, robins and cardinals. Snapping turtles and painted turtles are happy warming up in the sun. The Fairlawn park's boardwalk is mostly elevated path and paved trails. The elevated trails keep visitors above the wetlands and many water-logged portions of the park. A wetland marsh and wet woods contribute to the wide diversity of geologic features in the park. The soft peat soils are an astonishing forty feet deep in some parts which created the bog forest and aging bog. Peat is a soil found mostly along the line of glaciation- roughly a south-west to north-east line across Ohio.
