Helpful Hacks to Make Everyday Tasks Easier If You Have Limited Mobility

Doing everyday tasks alone can be difficult if you have limited mobility. Still, there are ways to make them easier and more manageable. Here at Senior Helpers Northern Kentucky, we are committed to helping our clients with limited mobility stay independent and comfortable while still being able to do the things they love. In this post, we'll go over some of our helpful hacks for everyday tasks and simple exercises to do at home to help with mobility. Whether you're a senior who needs help with mobility or a loved one who helps with these tasks, we hope these tips help make your day-to-day life a little easier. Let's get started!

Helpful Hacks for Everyday Tasks

Getting Dressed

For those with limited mobility, getting dressed can be challenging. That's why we recommend investing in adaptive clothing that makes it easier to slip on and off. Utilize dressing sticks and reachers to help those with limited mobility reach, grab, and button clothing. Additionally, using a shower chair can assist with getting dressed while in the bath or shower.

Cooking

Cooking can also be a challenge for those with limited mobility. There are several adaptive kitchen tools available that can make day-to-day cooking easier. Utilize a slow cooker for meals that require minimal effort and are still delicious. Invest in a microwave for quick, easy meals.

Cleaning

Cleaning can be a daunting task for those with limited mobility. A robotic vacuum can help keep your home clean and tidy with minimal effort. Invest in adaptive cleaning tools such as long-handled dusters and brooms. Utilizing a grabber will help make picking up and reaching items on the floor easier.

Shopping

Shopping can also be a challenge if you have limited mobility. Utilize online shopping to make shopping easier. Additionally, investing in a shopping cart with a seat will make it easier to carry your items around while shopping. Lastly, a delivery service can make grocery shopping a hassle-free experience.

Simple Exercises to Do at Home to Help With Mobility

  • Seated Arm Raises: Start by sitting in the chair, or on the floor, with your back straight and your feet flat on the ground. Slowly raise both arms above your head and hold for a few seconds before slowly returning them. Repeat for 10-20 repetitions.
  • Neck Rolls: Start by sitting in the chair, or on the floor, with your back straight and feet flat on the ground. Slowly rotate your head to the right and hold for a few seconds before slowly turning your head to the left. Repeat for 10-20 repetitions.
  • Knee to Chest: Start by lying on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Slowly raise one knee towards your chest and hold for a few seconds before slowly bringing it back down. Repeat with the other leg. Do 10-20 repetitions with each leg.
