We take the opportunity to provide care in your home seriously and make it a priority to provide the highest level of client service possible.  We have built an exceptional team of care professionals, each committed to remaining at the forefront of the in-home care industry through our proprietary ongoing training and education programs. You can feel confident that your loved one is in good hands with Senior Helpers.

Our History

Senior Helpers was founded in 2002 by Tony Bonacuse with the help of Peter Ross after their firsthand experience in caring for their respective family members. Tony and Peter identified a need that was not being filled properly by the other companies.  They realized that most seniors would prefer to age in their own home rather than move into an unfamiliar institution.  Unfortunately, the options available to most seniors were very limited.  Most seniors did not have access to well-trained, dependable and accessible in-home care. This was the mission-driven spark that started Senior Helpers.

The first office opened in Baltimore, Maryland, and quickly developed a reputation for delivering excellent in-home senior care with their well-trained staff of professional caregivers. Based on the success of the Baltimore location, the company began to expand.  Over the past 13 years, the Senior Helpers family has grown to include a network of more than 300 locally owned and operated franchises across the United States.

Senior Helpers of Seal Beach, Los Alamitos was proud to join the system in 2021.  Like every other owner, we too are fully-committed to the original goal of providing dependable and accessible in-home care with well-trained caregivers. Nothing is more important to us than being the best available resource for seniors and families in our community.  We are lucky to serve hundreds of seniors in our community, and we are committed to continuing to provide uncompromising levels of care to all our families.

Our process

Our process

The first step in the process is a complimentary, initial in-home care assessment with a Senior Helpers consultant.  This assessment can help you understand the true needs of your loved one, and your options. Together we can discuss their needs, our senior care services and determine what’s best for your entire family.

We will cover:

  • Your family's specific goals
  • Your loved one's daily plan design and schedule
  • Pricing and payment methods
  • Implementation process
  • Ongoing communication and follow-up plan

Kimberley Perata

Kimberley Perata

Owner

Kimberley’s parents, who are elderly, still manage to live independently. Her father had suffered several falls over the years, and the concern has weighed very heavily on Kim and her mother. Although he has fully recovered, the possibility of another incident looms over her head. More importantly, what would she do to provide care for him since he is 6 hours away in Northern California?  “If we are able to help families bring comfort and care to their aging loved ones, we will have succeeded!”

Prior to Senior Helpers, Kim worked 20 years in executive sales in the healthcare/finance space. Kimberley spent numerous years with large corporations like GE, Lending Club, Wells Fargo, and Alphaeon Credit, where she was always a top performer. Realizing every day is a blessing, Kim brings a positive attitude to her Senior Helpers businessHaving lived in Long Beach and surrounding areas for the past 21 years, she knew this is where she wanted to open their Senior Helpers Business and be a part of the community and give back.

Steven Nickens

Steven Nickens

Owner

Steven became involved with Senior Helpers to provide dependable and affordable care for the elderly and, therefore, make a difference in their day-to-day lives. Steven wanted his aging mother to be able to live her life to the fullest. He often asked himself, what are the options that would allow her to do so? "My mother, who is well into her 80's, suffered a stroke and needed rehabilitation and constant care. Fortunately for Steven, his older brother, and aunts, who are also getting up there in age, are around to care for her. "This could all change so quickly, so we needed to have options as not to get caught off guard."

Prior to Senior Helpers, Steven worked 25 years in sales, sales management, executive leadership, and building successful businesses. Most recently, Steven served in various executive leadership roles where he has been instrumental in helping others reach their full potential. Steven spent numerous years with large corporations like Staples, GE, and Empire Today. After facing challenges with his mother, he knew that he wanted to be a part of the senior care industry. After months of research, he knew that Senior Helpers would be the perfect fit. Steven says, "It was less about a business and more about giving back and making a difference in the lives of others who are faced with challenging decisions, such as how to care for their loved ones."

Valeria Aceves

Valeria Aceves

Scheduling Manager

For Valeria Aceves, home health care is more than a profession, it’s a lifelong commitment shaped by the people she has served. She began her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant at 18, where she quickly discovered the profound impact of compassionate, quality care. The clients she supported not only entrusted her with their well-being but also shared their stories, wisdom, and encouragement, reinforcing her dedication to the field.

As her experience grew, Valeria recognized the challenges families face when navigating home health care. This realization led her to transition into administration, where she could make a broader impact by ensuring both clients and caregivers receive the support they need. Now, as Scheduling Manager, she works diligently to create a seamless and compassionate experience, balancing the needs of patients with the expertise of care providers.

Valeria carries with her a guiding principle instilled by her mother: “Kindness is scarce, so it’s our duty to put more of it into the world.” This belief drives her commitment to ensuring that every individual receives care with dignity and respect. While she no longer provides direct patient care daily, she maintains her CNA certification and continues her professional training, staying closely connected to the heart of the work she values.

With a background in business administration and extensive experience in home health coordination, Valeria combines expertise with empathy. For her, scheduling isn’t just about logistics- it’s about people, families, and ensuring that no one goes without the care they deserve
