Valentine’s Ideas for Seniors
Valentine’s Day doesn’t just have to be a day for couples. It can be a day we set aside to show and express our love for one another, and one that everyone should have the opportunity to celebrate. Everyone should be able to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and we should all make time to show love and affection to all of our family and friends.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, it’s a good time to show our love to any of the seniors and older adults in our lives. Many seniors struggle with feeling alone, abandoned, or have to contend with the people in their lives they loved no longer being around. There are many fun activities you can participate in with your elderly loved ones to make them feel extra special and loved.
- Paper crafts can be a fun activity to get into the holiday spirit. With red and pink construction paper, cutting out heart shapes and putting them up around the house can create a festive, decorative environment. You can also make a garland, either by taping or stapling paper hearts together to make a chain, or by interlocking paper loops and taping them shut.
- Cards and gift exchanges can be a great event. A casual potluck or coffee klatch is the perfect setting for people to bring Valentine’s cards and small inexpensive gifts to exchange with each other.
- Your time and presence is probably the best gift you can get for an older adult you love. Sometimes the most powerful form of love is just being present and there for someone.
