Diets for Cancer Patients

One of the negative health effects of cancer is that it makes the immune system less strong. One of the things you can do to help build up your immune system is follow a healthy diet, which can help to build up the immune system and boost your body’s ability to fight off infections. A healthy diet also aids the body in the ability to heal the body tissues faster if the cancer or the treatment for it has caused any damage.

Eating a healthy, well-balanced diet can help you feel better both physically and mentally, whether you’re still dealing with the cancer, or it is currently in remission. And while your doctor will certainly advise you to eat healthier, the knowledge that good nutrition can help your body fight illness may keep you motivated to plan healthy eating ahead of time.

Most cancer patients are told to eat 25 to 30 kcals per kg of their body weight each day. Proteins are the most important part of their diet, and they should include 1.5g of protein per kilogram of their body weight each and every day. Meals should also be broken up into five or six smaller, more frequent, meals, instead of the traditional pattern of breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Light physical activity, if possible, such as walking or something else low impact can help you build hunger and eat all the calories you need. Your doctor may also be able to prescribe a medication that can help boost your appetite.
